Toddler

14 months – 3 years

The Toddler Community is thoughtfully designed to serve the needs of children who are ready to explore and learn from their environment.

The Toddler Community

Children who are steady walkers and at least 14 months can join the Toddler Community. The program is directed by an AMI trained guide and three assistants.

The staff’s responsibility is to observe the child and prepare the environment where children can move freely and work independently. The attractive materials draw the children to work with it.

The Toddler Community is divided into different areas.

Language

The children at this age are at a sensitive period for language. We support this with the adults in the classroom exposing them to clear precise language and conversation.

We have many different language materials and activities to encourage their need to develop their language. The children enjoy poetry, finger plays, and singing. They all enjoy being read to.

Movement

There are many different activities available to develop their fine and gross motor skills. Going outdoors is a daily activity to help with their large motor coordination.

Exercises of Practical Life

Practical Life activites include taking care of the environment and taking care of one’s self.

some activities in this area of the classroom include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing a table, washing dishes, etc. This is an important area where the child develops a strong sense of order, concentration, and confidence. Also, this area helps the child to be independent. They have the opportunity to take care of themselves: dressing or undressing, getting their shoes on or off.

Toileting is an important part of the day for toddlers.
