The coast.
Pictures of the coast along Galle Road, going south from Colombo to Kosgoda.
Even large fishing trawlers were beached. Many were thrown across the road. People were trying to see what they could salvage.
The train tracks that follow the coastline were torn up in many places. Not far from here, the "Queen of the Sea" was caught in the waves and flipped over. Almost everyone inside was trapped as the rising water submerged the cars. It took almost a week to untangle and remove all the bodies. With an estimated 1700 dead, this was the worst train disaster ever.
